She was launched at the Birkenhead shipyard of camel Laird on the 13th April 1937. Hms Ark royal was involved in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck bu later, at the same time as on Malta convoy duty, was topedoed by the German submarine u-81. Despite all attempts to tow her to grab altar, the ARK royal slowly heeled over and at 0613 hours on the 14th November 1941 she in spite of everything went down, only one Sailor losing his life.
